VIJAYAWADA: The complaints pertaining to improper sanitation facilities, leaking drainage lines, inadequate water supply and damaged roads from the residents of the hill slopes continued to pour in on the seventh day of the Samarabheri launched by the city council of the Communist Party of India (CPI). CPI leaders who visited the 38th and 39th divisions on Saturday were greeted by a spate of representations from residents about the alleged indifference on the part of the administration. Residents of the hillslopes in particular were sore that the officials did not take steps to repair damages to the stairs leading to their dwellings; nor was their response in plugging the leakages of the underground drainage pipelines positive.
Garbage cleaning
The sanitation and garbage cleaning too was not encouraging as piles of garbage emitting stench continued to accumulate for several days, they said. In the 39th division, the residents complained of inadequate drinking water supply which was causing them severe hardships. Though a reservoir was constructed at the Nimmathota centre, it was yet to be officially inaugurated. As a result, street brawls for procuring a potful of water had become common in the division, they lamented. There were also complaints about the defunct streetlighting system in some areas under the 39th division that was posing a threat to pedestrians and motorists during nights. The CPI city secretary, K. Sekhar Babu, who is leading the Samarabheri, assured the residents that he would take their grievances to the notice of officials concerned.
