Rs. 2 lakhs for drainage line

Staff Reporter

CPI(M) team takes the initiative

GUNTUR: The direct impact of `Praja Prasthana Padayatra' being organised by the Communist Party of India(Marxist) was visible on Saturday when the Municipal Commissioner sanctioned Rs. 2 lakhs for permanent solution of drainage problem in the first lane of A.T. Agraharam.

The lack of proper drains was leading to accumulation of used water on the first lane of A.T. Agraharam, which the locals complained to the visiting CPI(M) delegation led by the party district unit secretary, D. Rama Devi.

After it was brought to the notice of the municipal authorities, the Municipal Commissioner took steps to arrange for immediate clearance of the place.

Mr. Rama Rao also promised to get the drain constructed so that there was no stagnation of water. The third day of the padayatra was organised in Srinivasarao Thota, Sampath Nagar, Nallacheruvu, and K.V.P. Colony, where a majority of the complaints were on the drinking water front.

Some of the people sought house site pattas.

The CPI(M) leaders at each colony gave a call to the people to be prepared for a fight against the municipal authorities for their failure to provide drinking water even through tankers. The Guntur city unit secretary,

K. Ramireddy, said that Rajiv Gruhakalpa was not an alternative for the house sites as not many can afford houses and the numbers were also very few.
