Closure of meat shops

The Municipal Corporation of Visakhapatnam has declared a holiday for slaughter houses, meat, beef and chicken stalls on Monday on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti.

The Chief Medical Officer, M.S. Raju, said they would prosecute the butchers if they fail to observe the holiday. - Staff Reporter

Delay in water supply

The Municipal Corporation of Visakhapatnam will delay supply of drinking water in some wards on Sunday due to urgent repair works being taken up on Thatipudi pipeline at Naiduthota.

According to a release, supply will be delayed in Poorna Market area, Old Town, Velamppeta, Jalaripeta, Prasad Gardens, Allipuram, Dabagardens, Suryabagh and other areas falling in 1-15 wards. - Staff Reporter

Office-bearers

The Gandhi Centre, at its recent general body meeting, elected the following office-bearers for 2005-06: president - M. Gopalakrishna Reddy; vice-presidents - K.V. Ramana, S. Gopala Sastry and G. Vijayam; secretary - K.S. Sastry; joint secretaries - B.S. Sastry and Jahahora; and treasurer - M. Varahalu Chetty. - Staff Reporter

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) Shramik Congress divisional coordinator, P. Mohan Rao, has thanked the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, for issuing orders on recruitment of 85,000 posts in Group D category. He said of the total sanctioned posts, 10,000 would be recruited for ECoR. - Staff Reporter
