Staff Reporter

Programmes spread over 3 days

VELLORE: A three-day summer festival will be held at Yelagiri Hills from May 27-29. The Vellore Collector, S. Gopalakrishnan, told newspersons here recently that a multi-departmental exhibition and a flower and fruit show would be some of the highlights.

He said 50 stalls would be set up at the multi-departmental exhibition. A renovated shed has been provided at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs in the open-air auditorium for the inaugural and valedictory functions and the cultural programmes.

Yatri Niwas

A Yatri Niwas is being constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs with funds from the Central Government. A park has been readied for the festival. A dhobhikana has been constructed to prevent the lake in Yelagiri Hills from being sullied by washermen.

An information centre has been provided at the entrance to Yelagiri Hills. Share autorickshaws would be made available to take tourists to places of interest other than the main village of Athanavoor on the hills.

The Agriculture Minister, K. Pandurangan, and Tourism Minister, A. Miller, would participate in the valedictory function to be held on May 29.

Individuals, hotels and other organisations interested in participating in the flower and fruit show have been requested to contact the Assistant Director of Horticulture at Vellore or Tirupattur either in person or by post to register their names.
