BANGALORE: A 14-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu who was separated from her parents six months ago was reunited with them, thanks to the Commercial Street police here. On May 3, the Commercial Street Inspector, Babu Naronha, who was on night rounds, saw a girl with a few rag-pickers, all boys, on a pavement on Kamaraj Road.
Given care
Mr. Naronha took the girl, who appeared mentally unsound, into his custody. He put her under the care of a woman, a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee.The girl, who spoke only Tamil, told the police that someone had brought her to Bangalore.
`Tortured'
She was made to work as a domestic help at a bungalow. As her employer tortured her, she ran away from the house and got into the company of the rag-pickers. Mr. Naronha got in touch with the police in Salem, Dharmapuri and Coimbatore districts in Tamil Nadu and gathered information about girls who had gone missing from these places. The girl's description with that of one who had gone missing from Pothanur police station limits in Coimbatore.
Complaint
Six months ago, Seshaiah, a resident of Thillainagar in Coimbatore, had lodged a complaint with the Pothanur police that his daughter, Kamakshi, had gone missing. On verification, Mr. Naronha found that the girl who was in his custody was Kamakshi herself. Head Constable Anthony Joseph and Constable Vinutha, attached to the Commercial Street police station, accompanied Kamakshi to Thillainagar and handed her over to her parents recently.
