One year in office

This refers to the editorial "A good year but big promises to keep" (May 23). It has rightly pointed out that the biggest strength of the UPA Government is a Prime Minister with an enviable reputation for personal integrity. It is heartening to note that the UPA Government was able to complete one year despite internal contradictions and conflicting interests. The Left has so far played the role of a responsible Opposition in the absence of the NDA.

V.K. Sathyavan Nair,
Kottayam, Kerala

The UPA Government is unable to implement progressive reforms because the Left parties act as a spoke in its wheel. It is time they saw the writing on the wall.

N. Ganga Ram,
Mumbai
