BSNL set to become top cellular operator

VISAKHAPATNAM: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which stormed into the cellular market after the entry of big players like AirTel, Idea and Hutch, is all set to become No. 1 operator in the city, according to the Telecom District General Manager, J. Ganta. Speaking at a meeting conducted to mark the inauguration of customer service centre in Andhra University, he said, "Though we entered late, we are poised to take over the private operators."

As of now, the BSNL had a client base of 62,000. "We have already occupied second position. Anytime, we may turn the market leader," he stated. The telecom district earned a revenue of Rs. 152 crores during 2004-05 with a profit of Rs. 60 crores registering a rate of return of 55.71 per cent as against a target of Rs.150.6 crores.

Single window service

The customer care centre inaugurated by the AU Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopala Reddy, will provide all services under one roof. Prof. Reddy thanked BSNL for providing the facility and felt that now technology would be available at the doorstep .
