Tsunami relief work: IMC unhappy

KOCHI: Bureaucratic lethargy and insincerity of political leadership have badly hit relief and rehabilitation efforts in the tsunami-hit areas of Kerala, a media group has charged.

Members of the International Media Centre (IMC), which recently toured the worst-affected areas in Kollam and Alappuzha districts, found that at least some of the houses for the victims could have been completed and occupied by now.

This failed to happen, thus reflecting not merely the insincerity of the political leadership but also the utter insensitivity of a seemingly rule-bound bureaucracy, the IMC said in its report submitted to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy. — PTI
