MADIKERI: The training being received by members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at the NCC national integration camp being held at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College here, will stand them in good stead, H.S. Rajan, Camp Commandant, said here on Tuesday. Addressing presspersons here, Col. Rajan said over 650 cadets from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Nagaland, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Goa, besides those from the State, are participating in the camp, which began on May 20. It will conclude on May 31. The training will acquaint the cadets with the local culture, customs, traditions and languages of different States and foster a spirit of oneness among them. Understanding each other will promote tolerance, camaraderie and bonhomie, Col. Rajan said. The cadets are being trained in cultural activities, he said and added that experts are imparting lectures on various subjects such as values and ethos in society, the role of youth in fostering communal harmony and nation-building activities. Debates have been organised on national integration themes, and the cadets will be taken to various places of historical importance and tourist interest to learn more about the district's diverse culture, he said. The cadets are also involved in working with the local community to generate a spirit of cooperation. This will help dismantle barriers among the cadets, Col. Rajan said. Emphasis is being laid on community development programmes and environmental awareness to contribute to nation-building activities, he added.
