BELLARY: The Hubli-based Bendre Research Institute has floated a Bendre Sangeet Academy to popularise the poems of renowned poet late Da. Ra. Bendre, according to K.S. Sharma, trade union leader and Director of the institute. Inaugurating the Dr. Bendre Smaranotsava organised by the district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat here on Monday, Mr. Sharma said that the academy has been giving classical notations to around 1,447 poems by Dr. Bendre and it will publish the same in the form of a book. He also said that the academy has been organising Bendre Sangeet sessions at the institute each year featuring renowned artistes. Describing Dr. Bendre as a great poet and scientist, Mr. Sharma said that not many are aware of the poet's contribution to mathematics and science. "Our aim is to find a place for Dr. Bendre in the minds of the people," he said.
Exhibition
Vaman Bendre, son of the late poet, spoke about the life and works of his father. Metri Mrutyunjaya of the Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha inaugurated Bendre Darshan, an exhibition of the poet's works, photographs and paintings. The winners of a singing competition held on Dr. Bendre's birthday were given prizes. Nisti Rudrappa, president of the parishat, welcomed. Vijaya Kishore, All India Radio and Doordarshan artiste; Doddabasava Gawai, Bellary Madhu, Maithili, and Lakshmi sang songs written by Dr. Bendre.
