BELLARY: The general body of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat, which met here on Monday, directed the Joint Director of Agriculture to ensure that all field demonstrations and distribution of seeds for the kharif season under various schemes should be complete by June 30. The meeting also directed the Joint Director to safeguard the interests of farmers by ensuring that fake and uncertified seeds do not enter the market. "Be vigilant and prevent the sale of fake and unauthorised seeds," G. Umesh, president of the panchayat, said. The general body, while giving its approval for the action plan of almost all departments for 2005-06, suggested minor changes to the implementation of the Chief Minister's Rural Roads Development Scheme.
Suggestions not included
During the discussion, members pointed out that the action plan prepared by officials does not include the suggestions made by them. Gonal Virupakshagowda, member, said that several members had suggested the inclusion of more works. But they have not been added to the action plan. It has been proposed to use Rs. 2.37 crores Rs. 1.23 crore through the Bellary Zilla Panchayat engineering division, and Rs. 1.13 crore through the Hadagali Zilla Panchayat engineering division to develop roads in the district. The meeting also approved the suggestion made by Mr. Virupakshagowda and other members that the president should hold another round of discussions and include the works suggested by members before giving a final approval to the plan.
Health projects
The general body of the panchayat also approved Health Department projects that are to be taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Scheme in 2005-06 at the cost of Rs. 42 lakhs. The works included repairs and maintenance of hospital buildings, electricity supply, drinking water and sanitation, painting of buildings, construction of compound walls for primary health centres, and auxiliary nurse midwife centres in all taluks. The funds allocated to various taluks is as follows: Bellary, Rs. 10.43 crores; Sirguppa, Rs. 5.39 crores; Hospet, Rs. 5.39 crores; Sandur, Rs. 3.85 crores; Hadagli, Rs. 5.39 crores; Kudligi, Rs. 6.16 crores; and Hagari Bommanahalli, Rs. 5.39 crores. Venkatarao Ghorpade, Deviramma, Bhagyamma, and Gadiganur Halappa participated in the discussion.
