HYDERABAD: All the 185 polling stations in the Penukonda Assembly constituency have been identified as "sensitive" and some of them as "hyper sensitive". This is the first time in the State that all polling stations in a constituency have been found "sensitive", said M. Narayana Rao, Chief Electoral Officer. Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, the CEO said that special steps had been taken to ensure free and fair polling.
Six policemen for a booth
They had drafted a plan according to which there would be at least six policemen at each booth and more of them at the hypersensitive ones depending on the situation. Also, additional Central forces were being deployed at vulnerable places. The police would undertake patrolling at villages days before the polling to instil confidence among voters particularly those in weaker section colonies. The number of voters attached to each polling station has been limited to less than 1,000 as against the norm of 1,200-1,500.
Situation warranted visit
He said the situation was such that he had to visit Penukonda.
Normally, a CEO would not visit a particular constituency, especially if byelections were conducted there.
Depending on the feedback from the Central observers, he would visit again, he added.
