ELURU: An angry mob assaulted a doctor and ransacked his nursing home at Fatebad here on Tuesday, holding him responsible for the death of a patient. The mob barged into the hospital, damaged windowpanes and furniture and manhandled the doctor, S.M Ahmad. The doctor reportedly fled in a bid to save his life. According to information, the hospital authorities on Monday admitted a patient, Vallabhaneni Anjaiah (48) of Satrampadu, following his attempt to commit suicide by consuming poison. Anjaiah, working as a hamali worker at the APSRTC bus stand, made a futile bid to end his life reportedly due to financial problems and died on Tuesday in the hospital. The victim's relatives alleged that the doctor's negligence was the cause the death. The patient died soon after an injection given by the doctor, they said.
Case filed
Meanwhile, the town Circle Inspector, Raghuveera Reddy, told The Hindu that the police had registered a case against the kin of the deceased--Vallabhaneni Chandrasekhar, Phani Kumari, Raja Rao and Nageswara Rao--for their alleged involvement in ransacking the hospital and assaulting the doctor following a complaint by the hospital authorities. Although the victim's relatives lodged a complaint alleging negligence on the part of the doctor leading to the patient's death, the doctor could not be implicated in the case until the charge was established by a team of experts, the CI said.
