HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has ridiculed the Telugu Desam Party's campaign against the Government for initiating several pro-poor measures. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the APCC spokespersons -- P. Venkat Rao and Mohd. Jani -- said that the Congress had kept almost all its promises unlike the TDP which never implemented any. The ruling party was honest enough to admit its helplessness in implementing four of its 158 promises and gave its reasons too, a trait unseen in the TDP. Twenty-eight of its promises had been fulfilled and the rest were under implementation. The Government had only chalked out an elaborate plan to implement its promises but also had made enough budgetary provisions wherever necessary.
Baseless charges
The PCC leaders said the TDP, which was blaming the Congress Government alleging failure on its part in producing records pertaining to tenders of irrigation projects, was unable to substantiate its allegations. On the other hand, it should make public where and how it had spent Rs. 57,000 crores loans taken from foreign agencies during its rule, the Congress leaders said. The TDP was trying to explore ways to pull out of the open debate on irrigation tenders being unable to prove any lapses so far, they said referring to its demand that the Government should first take up debate on Category I works.
