HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday said the Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee (TRCCC)'s decision not to speak of separate Telangana was in tune with that party's "selfish philosophy" of raking up emotional issues before elections and dumping them after securing the mandate. Addressing a press conference, two senior party MLAs -- T. Devender Goud and N. Janardhan Reddy -- and the TDP general secretary, K. Srihari, said the resolution dropping Telangana exposed the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)'s plan of taking Telangana voters for a ride.
`Fears come true'
"Our apprehensions have come true. The Pradesh Congress chief, K. Keshava Rao, is not interested in the issue as he has got his post. The TRCCC convenor, G. Chinna Reddy, wants to forget it as he expects a berth in the Cabinet in the coming expansion. The other leading lights hope to get into the Legislative Council," they added. It was not only dropping of Telangana but the Congress Government had been neglecting the region as far as irrigation projects on the Godavari and the Krishna were concerned, they alleged. The Government announced grandiose plans of completing pending irrigation projects but none of those in Telangana had received administrative sanction. The Government was embarking on diverting Godavari water from Telangana to other regions.
Schemes on Godavari
The Government was not showing any interest in taking up the issue of construction of barrages across the Godavari in Maharashtra as they affected projects in Telangana. Same was the case with the hydel project on the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme. The projects apart, the Congress and the TRS made no effort to implement GO 610 and the Girglani Commission's report. They said the party was prepared to launch an agitation on the neglect of Telangana. It had decided to organise protest meetings in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal against barrages in Maharashtra on May 26 and 27. If the Government did not hold an all-party meeting on the issue as promised, the TDP would convene one shortly.
