Staff Reporter

Rs. 2 crores for each mandal promised for dairy farming

CUDDAPAH: The Centre has agreed in principle to treat village as the unit for crop insurance in five districts in the first phase from this year, according to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Speaking to newsmen at YSR Estates at Idupulayapaya in Vempalle mandal on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy said he pursued the issue with the Centre as scores of farmers lost crop insurance claims in the past when mandal was treated as the unit. The village as the unit would come into force in Cuddapah, Anantapur, Prakasam, Medak and Karimnagar districts in the first phase, he said.

Call to farmers

Calling upon farmers to achieve higher crop yield by using qualitative seed, he advised them to desist from excessive use of chemical fertilizers.

He promised allocation of Rs. 2 crores per mandal to enable farmers take up dairy farming.

Speaking after inaugurating the ARWS scheme at Veparala village in Mylavaram mandal, Dr. Reddy said DWCRA women were economically shattered by Rs. 1.25 interest on loans in the past and hence his Government brought down it to 25 paise.

He gave away integrated handloom kits to weavers and advised them to produce clothes that have demand in the market.

The Chief Minister gave away loan of Rs. 10 lakhs to DWCRA groups, and aid of Rs. 80,000 to two Rajiv Yuva Shakti groups.

He performed bhoomi pooja for a BC hostel building at Dommara Nandyala village and a primary health centre at Moragudi.

He inaugurated the MRO office, a PHC and a BC hostel at Mylavaram and performed bhoomi pooja for Mylavaram canal modernisation works, a textile park and a Government junior college.
