`AIDS walk' to pass through nine districts

HYDERABAD: The year-long `AIDS walk for life,' which began in New Dehli on December 1 last year, after entering the State at Naidupeta in Nellore district at 8 a.m. on Wednesday will pass through the coastal belt along the Golden Quadrilateral highway in nine districts. Writ pleas against market panels admitted

HYDERABAD: The High Court on Tuesday admitted writ petitions filed challenging the ordinance issued by the Government on agricultural market committees. Justice Eswaraiah refused to grant stay of operation of the ordinance and made it clear that cases of the existing committee could be considered while making fresh appointments. TTD officer for Singapore temple ritual

TIRUMALA: Obliging the request of the Endowments Board, Singapore, the TTD management has deputed its Tirumala-based Special Officer, A.V. 7,785 kg of dry

ganja seized

NIZAMABAD: The excise police of Nizamabad zone seized 7,785 kg of dry ganja worth Rs.31.14 lakhs by conducting raids under Narayankhed excise station limits from May 21 to 23, according to the Assistant Commissioner, Excise (Enforcement), Devendra Prasad. Three persons -- Jangam Sidhi Lingaiah, Raghoba Maruthy Rao and Raghoba Sunil - were arrested while four others are absconding. - Staff Reporter

Maoist surrender

Kakinada: A woman naxalite, Mamidi Lakshmi alias Anitha (22), deputy commander of Korukonda local guerrilla squad (LGS), surrendered before Velivela Satyanarayana, SDPO of Rampachodavaram, at his chambers on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rathod Santosh alias Kishore (26), member of Narnoor dalam of the CPI(Maoist), surrendered before the Utnoor DSP, Ade Shesha Rao, in Adilabad district. - Correspondent

Aid given to slain constable's family

CUDDAPAH: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Tuesday granted financial aid to the family of a police constable, Subbarami Reddy, who was killed by naxalites.

Hailing from Naraharipuram in Chapadu mandal in the district, Mr. Reddy was killed by ROC naxalites when he was gunman of the former Penugonda MLA, S.V. Ramana Reddy. The Chief Minister granted an aid of Rs. 10,000 .

Convict dies in hospital

An ailing life convict, Noorullah, 55, died while undergoing treatment at Cuddapah Government hospital on Tuesday, according to the police. Noorullah belonged to Anantapur district and was admitted to hospital on Monday when he complained of illness.

Watery grave

for teacher

A part-time computer teacher in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayam, K. Sarvarayudu, 26, drowned in Annamayya project water at Rajampet, according to the police. Sarvarayudu, hailing from Visakhapatnam, met with the watery grave when he went for a swim along with his friends.

The scorching heat wave has claimed the life of a shepherd, Moode Lakshma Naik, 50, in Kadirivandlapalle village in Chinnamandem mandal.
