Khandu Rangnekar bowlers wrest initiative

MUMBAI: The Khandu Rangnekar XI bowlers wrested the early initiative against Vijay Merchant XI in The Sportstar Trophy 2005 MCA under-19 selection trial tournament third round on day one at the Karnataka ground, Cross Maidan here on Tuesday.

Medium-pacer Pratik Kar finished with four for 25 while left-arm spinners Karthik Gangadharan (three for 21) and Sabyasachi Mukherjee (two for 16) did the rest of damage. It was left to Vijay Merchant XI skipper Anand Singh to wage a lone battle, hitting 84 off 144 balls, and guide his team to 169.

Dattu Phadkar XI, aided by contributions down the line-up, reached 252 at National CC ground. In-form Srideep Mangela lashed seven fours in making a 72-ball 41, supported by 73 from captain Siddharth Chitnis (87 balls, 12 fours), Onkar Tulaskar (38) and Dhaval Parab (40).

Vijay Manjrekar XI slumped from 50 without loss to 76 for three at stumps, seamer Murtuza Hussain taking all wickets to fall.

The scores: Dattu Phadkar XI 252 (Srideep Mangela 41, Siddharth Chitnis 73, Onkar Tulaskar 38, Dhaval Parab 40; Vishal Dabolkar three for 78, Sanket Chavan three for 44) vs Vijay Manjrekar XI 76 for three (Gaurang Shah 34; Murtuza Hussain three for 32) at National CC ground.
