Nine killed in road accidents

GULBARGA: Four persons were killed and 10 sustained serious injuries when the Tempo in which they were travelling overturned near Sonna Cross on the Jewargi-Bijapur State Highway in Jewargi taluk in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to reports reaching here, Kantappa, 25, and Gowramma, 50, died on the spot, while Nitin, 22, and Raja, 15, died at the Jewargi Government Hospital. The injured have been shifted to the Government General Hospital in Gulbarga city, and their condition is said to be serious.

All the victims were from Sonna village in Bilagi taluk in Bagalkot district and were travelling to Kaligi in Chitapur taluk when they met with the accident. According to the police, one of the tyres of the Tempo burst causing the vehicle to overturn. A case has been registered at the Nelogi police station.

Minister's kin killed

Bidar Staff Correspondent reports:

Four distant relatives of the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Wakf, Mirajuddin Patel, died in an accident on the Mumbai-Hyderabad National Highway near Zaheerabad in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Bidar police, Syed Havaladar, 54; his wife, Munisa Begum; son Syed Faizuddin; all of Mannaekhalli, and their relative Hamid of Rajeshwar, died when their car rammed a lorry.

They were going to attend a marriage in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Patel participated in their funeral at Mannaekhalli on Tuesday evening. A case has been registered in the Zaheerabad police station.

One dead

One person died and four others were injured in two related incidents in Basavakalyan taluk on Monday.

Vithal Nivrutti Shindhe, who was travelling on the top of a lorry, was electrocuted when he came in contact with a power line near Togalur. Two persons were injured in the incident. They were returning from a marriage in Bidar.

Another two persons were injured when the vehicle carrying the two injured in the earlier incident to hospital overturned near Basavakalyan. Cases have been registered at the Basavakalyan police station.
