KOLLAM: The All Kerala Vanilla Growers Association has accused the Spices Board of engaging in unethical practices in trade with vanilla farmers of the State. At a press conference here on Tuesday, the secretary of the association, K.A. Kabeer, and the treasurer, M. Abdul Aziz, said while the Board was paying paltry sums to the vanilla growers for their harvest, the produce was being sold by the Board at huge margins. It was to save the vanilla farmers from being cheated that the association began procuring the produce directly from the farmers at a fair price. They said the farmers had started expressing confidence in the association. The association will organise a meeting of its members from the district at Punalur on May 31. The meeting will be held at the Punalur SNDP Guru Mandiram Hall.
