KANNUR: The Junior Public Health Nurses and Supervisors' Union has urged the State Government to appoint female lady health inspectors in the State evaluation team functioning in the Health Department Directorate to evaluate Maternity and Child Healthcare (MCH) activities. The union president, P. Chandrika, and the general secretary, J. S. Indiramma, told a press conference here on Tuesday that at present, male Junior Health Inspectors (JHIs) were being appointed in the State evaluation team while the duties relating to the MCH activities, including maintenance of records, were being done by the female Junior Public Health Nurses (JPHNs). They said that it was not proper on the part of the authorities to appoint JHIs to supervise JPHNs having similar grades. The union was also demanding that the lady health supervisor post be made gazetted posts. These demands would be reiterated by the two-day State conference of the union beginning here on May 27. The Health Minister, K. K. Ramachandran, would inaugurate the conference at the Jawahar Auditorium here on May 28.
