ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday ordered the closure of five medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh observing that none of these were recognised institutions. The colleges included Bharat Tibbia College, Saharanpur Tibbia College and Faiz Ayurvedic Medical Colleges, all in Saharanpur, and Azmal Khan Tibbia College and Shifa-ul-Mulk Tibbia College, both in Muzaffarnagar. Passing the order, Justice Sunil Ambawani said there was nothing on record to show that the State Government has granted permission to these colleges to offer diploma courses and therefore these institutions shall cease to function until they get recognition. The court also directed the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to ensure that the colleges do not function until their courses are recognised. The order has been passed on a contempt petition filed by one Rajesh Kumar Srivastava of Varanasi alleging that in spite of a direction in this regard by the Supreme Court, Uttar Pradesh Government had not taken steps against unauthorised doctors in the State.
