Sahitya Akademi awards announced

Award for N.S. Madhavan'sLanthanbatheriyile Luthiniyakal


THRISSUR: The Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards for 2004 have been announced.

Vishnunarayanan Namboodiri, Panmana Ramachandran Nair and Unnikrishnan Puthur have been selected for lifetime achievement awards, which include cash prizes of Rs. 10,000 each.


The awards were announced at a press conference on Tuesday by the Sahitya Akademi president, Yusafali Kecheri, and the secretary, P.V. Krishnan Nair.

The awards in other categories, each carrying a purse of Rs. 10,000, are as follows:


Novel: N.S. Madhavan (Lanthanbatheriyile Luthiniyakal); poetry: Nellikkal Muraleedharan (Nellikkal Muraleedharante Kavithakal); drama: Sree Janardhanan (Viralppadu); short-story: A.S. Priya (Jagarooka); criticism: K.P. Sankaran (Anuseelanam); scholastic writing: C.A. Ninan (DNA Vazhi Jeevatmavilekku); biography/autobiography: T.V. Echara Warrier (Orachante Ormakkurippukal); travelogue: George Onakkoor (Adarunna Aakasam); translation: Kilimanoor Remakantan (Divine Comedy); humour: P.C. Sanal Kumar (Collector Katha Ezhuthukayanu).

The following are the endowments:

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Prize: C. R. Das (Makkachi Kathakal); I. C. Chacko Award: C. Raghavan (Tulu: Nadum Bhashayum Nattarivum); C. B. Kumar Award: Chandramathy (Perilla prasnangal); K. R. Namboodiri Award: D. Sreeman Namboodiri (Upanishad Sarvaswam); Kanakasree Award: Mohammed Shafeer (Samudrathekkal Pazhakkameriya Marakkappal); G. N. Pillai Award: Vaidyabhooshanam K. Raghavan Thirumulppadu (Bhaishajya Darsanam); Kuttipuzha Award: Poojappura Krishnan Nair (Vakrokti Kairali); Gita Hiranyan Award: K. R. Meera (Ormayude Njarambu); Natakavedi Mumbai Award: Blesson Sebastian (Marxian Gramam).

P.S. Jyothilekshmi and K.A. Jhansi topped the Thunchan Smaraka and C. B. Kumar essay competitions respectively.
