Two killed in Ashok Nagar accidents

CHENNAI: An 11 year-old-girl and an autorickshaw driver died in separate road accidents in Ashok Nagar on Monday.

Dayakaran (39) of Vadapalani was returning home on a two-wheeler with his wife and two daughters riding pillion around 1 a.m, police said. He stopped the vehicle near the junction of the Ashok Pillar and the Police Training College.

A van carrying soft drinks hit Mr. Dayakaran's vehicle. His daughter Dhanalakshmi died on the way to hospital. His wife Gomathi (33) fractured her legs. Mr. Dayakaran sustained minor injuries and his other daughter Hemalatha (9) was unhurt. The van driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, police said.

In another accident, an autorickshaw capsized at 1st Avenue and driver M. Ramar (33) was trapped under the vehicle.

While taking a turn, the vehicle hit the median and capsized. The driver was trapped inside and died on the way to hospital, police said.

The Guindy Traffic Investigation police are investigating.
