CHENNAI: : A workshop to validate the safety and efficacy of Indian traditional medicines, as per WHO guidelines, will be held in Sri Ramachandra Medical University between May 25 and 29. The workshop will highlight good laboratory practices, good manufacturing practice and good clinical practices, to be followed in validating the use of medicinal plants based on Ayurveda and Siddha. The national workshop is being organised in collaboration with the Centre for Psychosomatic and Biofeedback Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and is supported by the Technology Transfer Division (drugs and pharmaceuticals) Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. In addition to the two educational institutions and the government department, leaders of the pharmaceutical industry will not only collaborate for the workshop, but also establish a lasting working relationship, S. The workshop would identify chemical compounds from plants that could be used to treat illness, proceed towards animal testing and then human clinical trials before plant-based drugs are introduced in the market.
