CHENNAI: A book titled `The Paramahamsa and The Paramacharya' was released on the occasion of the 112th jayanthi of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi of Kanchi Mutt.

Swami Gautamananda, head of Ramakrishna Mutt, who released the book at a function organised by the Veda Pata Nidhi Trust, here on Tuesday said the Indian culture was the only one, which had survived for over 5,000 years. That was why Swami Vivekananda was never tired of appealing to the young and old to be aware of the country's heritage. He said the Indian culture advocated selflessness and renunciation and service to mankind irrespective of the caste and community.

Ram Santhanam received the book, which was written by a former bureaucrat, V. Chandramowli.

Earlier, trustee S. Sankaran said the Trust was founded in 1983 by late T.S. Santhanam to honour and provide financial support to indigent and aged Vedic pundits.

There were about 300 pundits who were being provided a monthly honorarium of Rs. 400 each for their lifetime.
