HYDERABAD: Muslim leaders led by Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, former MP, and president, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, asked the Union Government to release all those arrested under POTA on the basis of confession without any corroborative evidence. Nineteen youth from the State were arrested by the Gujarat police and they have been languishing in Ahmedabad jail for three years. In a memorandum submitted to the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, at Delhi on Monday, the leaders alleged that POTA was used by the BJP-led NDA to harass Muslims and wanted the Centre to immediately release the arrested persons. Moulana Hameeduddin Aquil Hussami (United Muslim Forum), Asaduddin Owaisi (MP), Mohd Abdul Rahim Quraishi (All India Majlis Tameer-e-Millaat), M.A. Basith Anwar (Jamat-e-Islami) called on Ms. Sonia Gandhi and presented a memorandum on issues concerning Muslims.
