Extortionist arrested

An alleged extortionist, Gopal Tiwari, was picked up from his hideout in L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad on Monday by the Kolkata police and the Hyderabad Detective Department. He was produced in a local court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody for 12 days.

Since Tiwari was the prime accused in many cases of firearms supply, the Hyderabad police were inquiring whether he had supplied arms to any criminal gangs in the city.

Cherlapally jail inmates' protest

Some inmates of the Cherlapally jail on Tuesday went on hunger strike after an official allegedly beat a convict, Singh. According to the prison's in-charge Superintendent, Emmanuel Dhanraj, a jail official slapped Singh when he attacked another convict, Venkateswarlu.

Girl kidnapped

Unidentified persons allegedly abducted a two-year-old girl, Revathi, near her house at Ganesh temple in Adityanagaron Monday. The girl was playing with her brother, Naresh, when the kidnappers took her away.
