Career counselling at Hindu College

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: With the admission season being its first "campaigning" ground, the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) is all set to provide prospective admission-seekers not just a guided tour of the campus but also a helping hand in case things turn ugly.

From a career counselling fair that will provide guidance to a helpline to take care of harassment cases, DUSU will kick off its admission activity this year with its own version of an `Open Day' on May 26. To further save students from any harassment, DUSU on Tuesday announced six helpline numbers following a meeting with the Delhi police.

Coming as it does in the wake of the recent rise in cases of harassment of girl students on the campus, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North Delhi, Anurag Kumar, has issued the phone numbers of four police officers at the request of DUSU.

To be held at the Hindu College auditorium, the three-day career counselling session will include workshops by college principals and senior faculty members of the University. From giving students information about new courses to guiding them on which subject to take on the basis of their interest, DUSU is hoping that the session will help students make the right choice.

"The idea is to get the University's experts on a common platform so that students don't have to run from North Campus to South Campus looking for details.

The sessions will tell students about the scope of the various short-term courses offered by colleges as well as the relevance of the regular undergraduate courses. Also, there are a lot of new courses that students don't know about and the sessions will provide them with all the information,'' said DUSU secretary, Amrita Dhawan.
