Water yet to recede at Adimalathura

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The seawater that flooded large areas of the fishing village at Adimalathura following the tidal swell on Friday is yet to recede despite round-the-clock pumping.

Four pumps have been deployed to pump the water from the affected areas and the authorities hope to complete the operations by Wednesday. The Revenue Divisional Officer, M. Sasikumar, said water had been pumped out in other affected areas.

Meanwhile, the authorities on Tuesday closed down the relief camp at Pozhiyoor after the locals returned to their homes.

The remaining 11 relief camps set up in the coastal belt from Pozhiyoor to Vizhinjam on Friday last are continuing.

The work by the revenue authorities to assess the damage caused to property and fishing equipment has commenced.

The RDO visited the home of Nicholas, a native of Pulluvila, who was killed on Friday after his boat collided with another at Vizhinjam.

A compensation of Rs. 50,000 announced by the Government to the dependents of Nicholas would be paid this week. — Staff Reporter
