This Day That Age
The Goan authorities have issued orders to the military and armed police to shoot at sight Mr. Peter Alwares, Goa National Congress leader, if he is found anywhere in Goa. Mr. Alwares is considered by the Goan authorities to be the backbone of the satyagraha movement. The Portuguese have announced that villagers on the Goa border, who catch Indian satyagrahis and volunteers and hand them over to the police, would be given a reward of Rs.25 for each satyagrahi and Rs.10 for each volunteer.
