A place in one of the largest universities in the country will clearly not come easy this academic season. With over a lakh students from the Capital alone in the race for the 43,000-odd regular seats that Delhi University's colleges have on offer, the competition is going to be fierce. According to University officials, nearly 43,250 students were admitted to the regular undergraduate courses offered by its colleges last year, with as many as 89,062 students joining the non-formal stream. If one were to simply go by the figures of the last three years, then a first class should get a student a place in the University. But then, it will only get a regular seat in "some" college, and not necessarily the course or institute of the student's choice. With the number of students scoring 90 per cent or above in the Central Board of Secondary Education Class XII exams surpassing 1,000 this time, colleges admit chances of the cut-off shooting up are high, especially since Delhi University receives entries from all over India, making it a tougher battle for Delhi's own. The only consolation for students may be the University's observation that even students with a second class managed to get admitted to a few courses such as B.A. (Hons) in Hindi, Sanskrit, Philosophy and History last year. For Science students, the big test will be the cut-off of the restructured B.Sc. (Gen) programme being introduced from this year as B.Sc. Physical Sciences, B.Sc. Life Sciences, B.Sc. Applied Physical Sciences and B.Sc. Applied Life Sciences. With interest in the courses likely to be higher this time around, the cut-off here too may see a rise.

The University will this year sell the ICR forms from 16 information centres. This would include the Dean of Students' Welfare office, Arts Faculty and Kirori Mal College (KMC) in North Delhi, Deshbandhu College, Gargi College, Motilal Nehru College and DSW office in South Delhi, Vivekananda College, B.R. Ambedkar College and Maharaja Agrasen College in East Delhi, and Kalindi College and Zakir Husain in Central Delhi.
For students coming from West Delhi, the forms will be available at Deen Dyal Upadhyay College, Syama Prasad Mukherjee college, Rajdhani College and Swami Sharadhanand College.

For students who are rather clueless about the University's working, this is probably the best way to get introduced to the courses and ways of this campus. While an "Open Day" will be held in the Convocation Hall of Arts Faculty on May 26 and 27, another will be held in the Conference Hall of South Campus on May 30 and 31.

Students seeking admission to B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology or Anthropology will need to register themselves at the office of Deputy Registrar, Faculty of Science. While candidates wanting to do a course in Music should register at the Faculty of Music, those seeking admission to B.A. (Hons) in Germanic/Italian/French/Hispanic Studies should register themselves at the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi.

As in the last couple of years, the University will be conducting counselling sessions for SC/ST students from June 1 to 15 in the Sports Complex of North Campus. Four sessions of one hour each will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to give students details of seat availability, medium of instruction, combination of subjects, courses available and guidance on central registration for the admission.
The four centres where SC/ST students can register themselves between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. include Sports Complex, Office of the Joint Dean of Students Welfare in South Campus, Rajdhani College and Bhimrao Ambedkar College. Students will be required to present SC/ST certificates in their own name at the time of registration. The first list for the SC/ST category will be announced on July 1 at 10 a.m.

Registration of physically challenged students will be done at the DSW office in North Campus from June 1 to 15 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Students should have their certificate of physical disability issued by a certified medical board of a district/government hospital.
Apart from indicating the extent of physical handicap, the certificate should also bear his or her photograph and be counter signed by one of the doctors constituting the Board. They would also be required to appear before the Medical Board of the WUS Health Centre Constituted by the University.
