ANANTAPUR: The Panchayat Raj Minister, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, and the Minister for Agriculture, N. Raghuveera Reddy, violated the election code of conduct during their campaign for the Penukonda byelection in the district for the second day in a row on Wednesday. While Mr. Diwakar Reddy announced that the Government would supply groundnut seed to farmers from June 10 at Mallakalva in Chennekothapalli mandal, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy canvassed in a long convoy of vehicles in Somandepalli mandal. Several party leaders accompanied the two Ministers. The issue of poll code violation by the Congress was taken to the notice of the District Election Officer and District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, by TDP leaders.
Special IG holds meet
Meanwhile, the special IGP appointed for the byelection, B. Bhupati Babu, arrived here and had a meeting with the Anantapur Range DIG, N. Jayarami Reddy, and the Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, over the law and order situation in Penukonda. He proceeded to Penukonda in the evening. A delegation of the TDP comprising C. Ramachandraiah, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, Shobha Nagi Reddy, P. Keshav and others also represented to the special IGP and requested him to ensure a fair and peaceful polling in Penukonda. They urged the officer not to effect arrest of TDP activists on charges of involvement in the Penukonda violence till the polling was over.
