ADILABAD: Adilabad town and 15 other mandals were plunged into darkness late on Tuesday night following the collapse of a power transmission tower at Lingatla near Wankidi in Neredigonda mandal on National Highway 7. However, the Transco was making temporary arrangements to supply power in short durations of about one hour to all affected areas, according to the Superintending Engineer, Northern Discom, Chandrashekhar. The tower at location 96 carrying the main and alternate power supply lines from the Akkapur 220/132 kv sub station near Nirmal, collapsed at around 11.10 p.m. under the impact of gales. Staff Reporter in Hyderabad adds: The Transco said in a press release here work for re-erection of the 132 kv "D" type tower had been taken up on a war-footing. Efforts were being made to complete work on the line by Thursday night. Alternative power supply through the 33 kv line from Nirmal to Adilabad via Sarangapur could not be extended due to the breakdown of the 33 kv line simultaneously on account of the collapse of poles in the same area.
