Governor mourns

Sunil Dutt

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Governor, R.L. Bhatia, has mourned the passing away of the Union Sports Minister, Sunil Dutt. In a message here on Wednesday, he said he was deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden demise of Sunil Dutt. An accomplished actor, social activist and popular politician, he was a multifaceted personality. His contributions to the film world and social causes would be remembered. He also conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the actor-politician's admirers and the bereaved family. — Staff Reporter

Minister concedes

KSRTC pensioners' plea

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Transport Minister, N. Sakthan, has conceded the plea of the KSRTC pensioners' organisation to pay the pension on the first instead of the fourth of every month. He also issued orders to permit travelling using KSRTC pension passes in the Ananthapuri Fast services. - Special Correspondent

CBI raid on

PoE office

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the office of the Protector of Emigrants (PoE) at Thycaud here on Wednesday. Official sources said that unaccounted money worth Rs. 30,000 was seized from two clerks in the POE's office. The CBI team headed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Premkumar, raided the POE's office at around 5.30 p.m.

The CBI team subsequently raided the houses of two POE officials identified as Ganesh of Karamana and Praveen of Pappanamcode. The details of the raid were not immediately known. The raids were conducted in the wake of complaints that certain POE officials were taking money for giving emigration clearance to those going abroad for jobs. — Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: There is a vacancy of a research associate at the Centre for Biomechanics at the National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C).
