Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: The Mangalore-based daijiworld.com has been ranked 30,714 website among the estimated 60 million websites in the country by ranking.com, a premier web monitoring agency, according to Richard Lasrad, Resident Editor, daijiworld.com.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said the ranking was as of today. Besides internetsupervision.com, one of the world's largest website monitoring portals, has cited daijiworld.com as among the 100 most popular websites in the world. This ranking is based on the last 10 days' performance of any websites. daijiworld.com has been cited with major portals such as google, yahoo, ebay, microsoft and the like.

He said the website has an average 35,000 individual visitors per day. Of them 70 per cent are non-resident Indians (NRIs) based in West Asia, the U.S., Europe and Australia. The portal is in the process of setting up a professional website with its registered and independent offices in Mangalore and Mumbai.

Initiated by Walter D'Souza, Nandalike, who is its Editor-in-Chief, the portal was opened on January 14, 2001.

Funds raised

Mr. Lasrado said the portal had raised Rs. 3 lakhs for the family of Savia Coelho, who was washed away at Suratkal on December 26, 2004 when tsunami struck parts of Asia. Savia Coelho was the breadwinner of the family. A pictorial report helped raise the funds, he added.
