VIJAYAWADA: Even as the complaints on the inadequate drinking water, denial of house site pattas and absence of sanitation measures are continuing to pour in during the samarabheri launched by the Communist Party of India, the residents of Tarakaramanagar brought a peculiar problem to the notice of the CPI delegation. The people manning the Sulabh Complex in the area are charging Rs. 2 per head every day despite the orders from the authorities concerned that monthly cards be given to them on payment of Rs. 10. The residents a majority of whom are from the poorer sections complained that this was putting an undue burden on their finances.
House regularisation
There were also complaints that the officials concerned were demanding Rs. 30,000 for regularising the house sites in some areas under the 47th and 48th divisions. Unable to pay the amount allegedly demanded by the officials, the residents demanded that the CPI leaders take up the issue with the authorities and ensure that regularisation was done at nominal prices. Once regularised, the residents said they could obtain loans for carrying out repairs to their houses. This apart, petitions were submitted to the CPI leaders about the high saline content in the drinking water, overflowing drains and piling up of garbage due to lack of sanitation staff. The CPI team headed by the party's city secretary, K. Sekhar Babu, assured the residents that the party would continue its struggle and mount pressure on the administration to resolve the grievances of people.
