Man held on charge of cheating woman

The Gandhinagar police on Tuesday booked a case against a man, Ramchander (25), for allegedly cheating a woman by refusing to marry her after moving around with her for some time. The complainant, Y. Jyothi (20) of Kavadiguda, told the police that a mediator, Illaiah of Malkajgiri, had fixed her marriage with Ramchander who had agreed to accept Rs. 50,000 and three tolas gold as dowry. He reportedly moved closely with her for the last two months, and recently got his marriage fixed with another woman.

Student hangs self

Dejected over failing to qualify in EAMCET, a student, G. Madhavi (20), committed suicide by hanging in her house at Amberpet on Tuesday. A native of Sthambhampally village in Warangal district, she came to the city five months ago and attended coaching classes for EAMCET-2005.

This was her second attempt, and went into depression after the result, her brother told the police.

Mobile phones stolen

Thieves took away mobiles phones of two persons when they went to Alwal rythu bazar on Tuesday. G.V. Balraj of Chintal Bazar and J.B. Venkatesh of Macha Bollaram approached the Bollaram police saying that their mobiles were stolen when they were purchasing vegetables at the bazar.

Bus knocks down man

A man, A. Arasan (60) of Lakdikapul, was killed when an RTC bus hit the scooter he was riding from behind at Karbala Maindan traffic signal post on Tuesday. The victim was going from Lakdikapul to Paradise Hotel when the mishap occurred.

Pillion rider killed

A person, Laxmaiah (52), was killed when an autorickshaw hit the two-wheeler he was sitting pillion from behind at Pulla Reddy College in Mehdipatnam on Tuesday. A native of Teerantupally village, the victim was going to a function hall while his son, K. Shiva Raju, who escaped with minor injuries, was riding the scooter.

Gold rings taken away

Four fake policemen took away gold rings weighing 2.5 tolas from a chit fund employee after diverting his attention near Jubilee Hills checkpost on Tuesday. P. Upender Rao (35) of H.B. Colony, Moulali, was walking on the road when the quartet approached him posing as policemen. They persuaded him to remove his rings saying an offence was committed in the locality earlier in the day. They took the rings and kept in his bag. After walking some distance, Rao opened the bag only to see that the rings were stolen, the police said.
