Illicit liquor seized

NEW DELHI: Three alleged liquor suppliers were arrested at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Monday. Over 40 cartons of illicit liquor were seized from them.

Acting on a tip-off that an illegal liquor consignment was being smuggled into the Capital from Haryana, the police laid a trap near Rani Khera village at Sultanpuri. Around 8 p.m., the police team intercepted a tempo suspected to be carrying the consignment, at which three of its occupants, including a woman, got off the vehicle and tried to flee. The police, however, overpowered them and recovered the liquor consignment from the vehicle.

The accused were identified as Daleep Kumar, Babloo and Rozi. During interrogation, they allegedly disclosed that they had bought the consignment from Chandigarh.

Chain snatchers held

NEW DELHI: Two alleged chain snatchers and one of their accomplices were arrested at Krishna Nagar in East Delhi on Monday.

According to the police, the two accused, Sunny and Vikram Kumar, were arrested during a routine patrol when they were trying to escape on a scooter. At their instance, the police arrested the receiver of stolen property, Sonu. The police said Sunny and Vikram were involved in at least nine cases of snatching.

Medical negligence

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old patient died in Lady Hardinge Hospital here on Tuesday night after he was allegedly administered a wrong injection by the nurse on duty. A case of medical negligence has been registered at the Mandir Marg police station and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

Hospital officials said the patient, Ashok, was admitted to the emergency ward earlier this week with pneumonia. On Tuesday night, the nurse on duty allegedly administered him an injection meant for jaundice. Ashok collapsed within an hour. The confusion apparently occurred as the ward reportedly had another patient with the same name admitted with jaundice.

Patient commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old patient from Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday morning.

According to hospital sources, Vipin Saxena had been visiting the skin department at AIIMS for treatment. On Wednesday, he came to the hospital again along with his brother Hari Om and wife but was given another date. An upset Vipin then jumped to his death from the fifth floor of the building.

Unauthorised shops

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Government, NDMC and Delhi Police to remove the unauthorised squatters on the pavement near the Safdarjung Hospital within seven days.

A division bench comprising of Chief Justice, B C Patel, and Justice S K Kaul ordered for the removal of the unauthorised shops from the pavement within a week and file a status report.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police claimed to have busted an inter-state drug smuggling racket with the arrest of two persons from Paschim Vihar in West Delhi and recovered nine kgs of charas from their possession.
