Letters to the Editor
The article "Newsweek's embedded explosion" (May 23) describes the repercussions of the U.S.' flawed policies towards the Muslim world. While the underlying cause of the two World Wars was competition among the imperialist powers to maximise their loot, what is emerging in the 21st century is a `clash of civilisations' with two predominant trends unfolding. On the one hand, globalisation is trying to homogenise people's ideas and their way of living. On the other, identity politics is taking roots as expressed through violent terrorist outbursts and people's movements seeking to protect their indigenous ways.
