NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court committee, probing the statements and affidavits of Zahira Shaikh, a key witness in the Best Bakery case, and Teesta Setalvad of Citizens for Justice and Peace, has asked BJP MLA Madhu Srivastava to appear on May 30 to answer the charges levelled by the Tehelka portal of his bribing Zahira to change her stand. The committee, headed by Registrar-General B.M. Gupta and Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Kanwaljit Deol, has already examined Zahira and Ms. Teesta on the issue. The Tehelka portal had allegedly caught on camera Chandrakant Bhattu Srivastava, Congress corporator, saying the BJP MLA had paid Rs. 18 lakhs to Zahira to change her statements against the accused, leading to their acquittal. Summons has also been sent to Mr. Chandrakant to appear before the committee along with Mr. Madhu. Both of them have denied the allegations saying it is an attempt to defame them. Ms. Zahira had also denied the charge that she received a bribe to turn hostile in the case.
