Cop arrested

ERODE: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing police arrested a head constable attached to the Erode North Traffic Police on Wednesday on charges of taking bribe.

According to V&AC police, two days back, the Erode North Traffic police personnel stopped the two-wheeler of a farmer, Sundaramurthy of Gobichettipalayam, during a vehicle check. He showed his driving licence, RC Book and assured that he would bring the insurance documents.

The Traffic Police asked him to park the vehicle in the cycle stand and collected the token. He was asked to produce the documents and take the vehicle. Sundaramurthy came to the North Traffic Police station in the morning with the documents. The SI, Traffic, instructed him to give Rs. 300 to the head constable and take the vehicle. He preferred a complaint with the Anti Corruption wing. When he was giving the money to the head constable Esra, the police arrested him.

The SP, P. Balasubramanian, suspended him on Thursday.
