Our Correspondent

BHADRAVATI: "The byelection to the Shimoga Lok Sabha Constituency has been caused by the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa's opportunistic politics, the former Minister H.C. Srikantaiah has said.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, he said Mr. Bangarappa, despite benefiting immensely from the Congress, joined the BJP and left it for the Samajwadi Party.

Conspiracy

Mr. Bangarappa has hatched a conspiracy with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, to capture power in the State, Mr. Srikantaiah said and appealed to voters to beware of Mr. Bangarappa's tactics.

He said the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh's people-oriented programmes will help Congress win the election. The Janata Dal (Secular) has no place in the district, he added.
