`Teach Bangarappa a lesson'

Special Correspondent

Former Chief Minister's statement an insult to voters, says Moily

SHIMOGA: The former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Thursday took strong exception to the reported remarks of the Samajwadi Party candidate for the Shimoga Lok Sabha byelection, S. Bangarappa, that the voters committed a blunder by electing him to the Lok Sabha when he [Mr. Bangarappa] contested as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate last time.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Moily said it is nothing but an insult to the voters of Shimoga. They should teach Mr. Bangarappa a lesson, he said.

On the efforts being made by some parties to form a third front at the national level, Mr. Moily said that it will not take off as secular forces are consolidating themselves under the leadership of the Congress.

Deve Gowda's `padayatra'

The former Prime Minister and President of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda, launched the campaign of his party candidate in the Shimoga Lok Sabha byelection here on Thursday by going on a "padayatra" in Shimoga.

Mr. Gowda covered B.B. Street, Kumbaragundi, Sheegihatti, N.T. Road, Marnavami Bylu, Bharmappa Nagar, B.H. Road and Lashkar Mohalla seeking support for his party candidate, L.T. Thimmappa Hegde.
