Railways extends fare concessions

HUBLI: The Railway Ministry has extended fare concessions to several categories of passengers, according to a release issued by the South Western Railway Zone here.

The Ministry will grant concession in fares to delegates attending the 28th general session of the Jamait Ullama-i-Hind in New Delhi on May 29 and 30. The concession will be applicable to delegates whose income does not exceed Rs. 5,000 a month.

The Ministry has clarified that the concession will be given only in normal trains and not in special trains. Concessional return journey tickets will be issued on payment of fare for a single journey on second-class/sleeper, mail/express trains to delegates travelling more than 300 km on production of a certificate from the secretary of the Jamait Ullama-i-Hind, the release said.

For farmers

Farmers and milk producers are eligible for 50 per cent concession now when they visit national-level agricultural institutes and dairies for training in better agricultural practices and dairy farming.

They will have to travel in a group of not less than 20 and the concession is restricted to second class only. They have to produce a certificate issued by the District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Mamalatdar, District Agricultural Officer or Block Development Officer.

Students of government schools situated in rural areas can now get 75 per cent fare concession fares when they go on study tours, once a year.

Students wanting to use the facility will have to travel in groups of not less than 20 and get an endorsement on the existing concession certificate from the headmaster or principal that the school is a government school located in a rural area and that the student has not availed himself of the concession in the current financial year. And this concession is applicable to second class only.

The Ministry of Railways has decided to grant 75 per cent concession in second class fares to girl students of government schools in rural areas travelling to appear for entrance examinations for medical, engineering and other professional courses conducted by national-level institutes or various bodies of the Union Government, the release said.

Girl students have to produce a certificate in this regard from the headmaster or principal of the school. The concessional return journey ticket can be had from the station manager on production of the certificate along with a photocopy of the admit card or call letter for the entrance examination.

These concessions came into effect from April 1, the release stated.
