BANGALORE: The Additional Director of Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, M.N. Reddy, told The Hindu that a team is trying to find out the cause of Wednesday's fire on Shivajinagar Main Road and estimate the damage. A godown in the oldest tent house in the city was destroyed in the fire. The fire also damaged the offices of a few organisations. The Chief Engineer of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, N.S. Kumaraswamy, said the fire was not caused by any problem in the electrical circuit. "All the installations are in good condition," he said. After Wednesday's fire, not much is left in the office of Siasat, a Urdu daily, on the first floor of Ganesh Towers, adjoining the Saleh Ahmed building. The office of a finance company on the fourth floor of Ganesh Towers also met the same fate. The fire has disrupted the functioning of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), situated next to the Siasat office. "It will take three more days to restore the office. We don't know whether the computers will work," an employee of the PIB said. A call centre training institute and a private insurance company were also affected. About 30 labourers hired by the owner of Ganesh Towers, Narayana Reddy, were seen removing burnt material and clearing the place. "We started the work around 8 a.m. today, five hours after the fire was extinguished. "The affected portion will be cleaned and readied for our tenants," said Narayana Reddy's wife, who was supervising the labourers. Although the Saleh Ahmed building suffered damage, it was business as usual for the oldest tent house in the city. Of the six godowns in the building, only one was destroyed, according to Franklin, senior manager of the Saleh Ahmed business. "The incident has in no way affected our business. We are effectively catering to our clients' needs," he said. The loss is yet to be estimated, he added.
