COIMBATORE: Fortune favours the brave. True to it, the men from the EME Centre in Bhopal put up a brave front in the dying stages of the game to defeat a fighting North Western Railway (Jaipur) 105-94 in extra-time for a place in the semifinal league of the 47th all-India basketball tournament for the Nachimuthu Gounder Cup for men at the VOC Park Corporation Sports Complex courts here on Thursday. In the fourth all-India tournament for the CRI Trophy for women that began here on Thursday, Kerala State Electricity Board (Thiruvananthapuram) fought its heart out to topple favourite Southern Railway (Chennai) 53-49. In another match, Eastern Railway (Kolkata) humbled the only local team in fray, Nirmalax Basketball Club 68-38. The results: Men: EME Centre (Bhopal) 105 (Hawa Singh 40, Ajay Paul 16) bt North Western Railway (Jaipur) 94 (Niraj Kala 20, Mahindra Singh 36), Artillery Centre, Hyderabad 65 (Sukhbir Singh 18, Kunal Behera 18, Rajeev Kumar 15) lost to North Western Railway (Jaipur) 80 (Ashok Kumar 16, Mahindra Singh 15, Narendra Hooda 14), INS Shivaji (Lonawala) 77 (Settu 19, S.S. Hasse 15, A.A. Mashi 13) bt YMCA (Coimbatore 42 (Sathish 10). Women: Southern Railway (Chennai) 49 (S. Shyamala 20, Meenalatha 12) lost to KSEB 53 (Simi Subramaniam 18, Lajitha 10), Eastern Railway (Kolkata) 68 (Mridhula 15) bt Nirmalax BBC (Coimbatore) 38.
