NEW DELHI: At the close of the second day of nominations for the Congress presidential election, 94 sets ofpapers were filed in favour of incumbent Sonia Gandhi. On Thursday only two nominations were filed — one each from Bihar and Uttaranchal. Though she made it clear on Wednesday afternoon that she would not give her consent for any more nomination, after news broke of Union Minister Sunil Dutt's death, Ms. Gandhi gave in when leaders from the two States petitioned her at separate meetings. The party's central election authority clarified that 92 nominations were filed on Wednesday. Earlier a figure of 89 was given. Ms. Gandhi will be declared president-elect on Saturday, in the absence of a contest. There were indications that she favoured elections to the Congress Working Committee. She nominated the outgoing CWC. If there is an election to the CWC, it will take place at the party's plenary session — which is yet to be scheduled — where her election will be ratified.
