NEW DELHI: National runner-up Mary-Ann Gomes will be aiming to gain her final Woman International Master norm when the Asian under-16 chess championship begins at Namangam (Uzbekistan) on May 28. The reigning women's National `B' champion won a silver in the last edition of the championship held in Teheran last April. This year, Mary has shown brilliant form while picking up WIM norms in two successive appearances. Her maiden norm came in the Parsvnath International Open here in January and the second followed in the National 'A' women's championship at Bangalore earlier this month. Mary will be awarded a WIM norm if she beats the field next week. "After my performance in Bangalore, my confidence is high. My preparations for the Asian meet is fine and god willing, I should be able to attain my goal in the championship," said Mary. Apart from the Kolkata-based Mary, other Indian participants in the field are I. Ramya Krishna and Saheli Nath. In the boys section, last year's bronze-medallist G.N. Gopal,K. Vijay Keerthi and Rahul Sangma form the Indian challenge. Special Correspondent
