Explosives seized in Mahabubnagar

HYDERABAD:
The Mahabubnagar district police recovered a huge quantity of explosives worth Rs. 4 lakhs allegedly being transported in a van to be passed on to the CPI (Maoists) on the outskirts of Kalwakurthy town on Thursday night.
The Mahabubnagar SP, Vikram Singh Mann, told The Hindu on Thursday that during a routine vehicle check, the police intercepted a DCM van and recovered ammonium nitrate bags, slurry gel explosives and electrical detonators.
Four persons identified as Rayapuri Ramesh (driver) of Yacharam mandal in Ranga Reddy district, Chandramouli (cleaner), native of Devarakonda mandal in Nalgonda district, Venkateswarulu and Venkat Reddy of Shaligouraram mandal in Nalgonda district were nabbed. A contractor, Surya Kumar Reddy of Kalwakurthy, was also picked up.
In all 89 bags of ammonium nitrate (each bag weighing 50 kg), 2,000 slurry gel explosive sticks and 15,000 electric detonators were loaded in Bhongir of Nalgonda district.
The vehicle was intercepted when it was on its way to Dindichintapalli village in Vongur police station limits.
